It costs a whopping 110 grand, but it does also a look instead flipping lovely in the metal and can also do 189 miles an hour thanks to its 450 horsepower twin-turbo 3 to flat 6.

So, on a sunny day somewhere in England, what is the new Targa like to drive? Well, it’s pretty tidy. We have to admit this being the s version. It has 450 horsepower, which is just plenty to be going on with the serious, serious performance.

So stick it in third. Stick it in second, that’s. Some serious go serious, serious! Go it doesn’t, make a ripping sound, but sort of a gt4. Not many cars do nowadays with all this gubbins that they 39.

Ve got to have for the emissions, but no being no doubt the performance is thoughtfully intense, and the rest of the car is just delightful. This new 992 cabin is so much better than it used to be. They’ve always felt like quality places to be in Portugal, cabins 911 cabins in particular.

But this thing just the layout, is logical, sorted quality, nav system up here. Well, the full comp system, with a gigantic gravy, 12-inch screen quite simplified buttons in the middle, which is quite a nice refreshing change from Porsche.

The steering is kind of seven and a half out of ten. We would say we’ll come on to that in a minute, but we’re just bumbling through a village now, and We have to say that it is an enjoyable place in which to find yourself, especially on a beautiful British Summer’s day, it’s very comfortable.

If you stick it in standard, We don’t. Think many people would have many complaints. Even if you’re used to the sorting of bumbling around in a regular hatchback, but these electronic dampers that you get you to get the past system as standard it’s a pretty smart piece of kit.

It just gives the car so much range of ability in terms of you, knows, bumpy road. It’s, super comfortable, nice, smooth, open, twisty road. Stick it in sport plus thing comes alive beneath your backside.


There is the right road. We say the steering is, we would say, seven and a half out of ten. It’s, not beautiful lovely touchy-feely, steering it’s. Okay, it’s accurate. There’s a bit of weight in it, but it feels a little bit false.

You don’t climb out with your fingertips, tingling with excitement. It’s, just a kind of effective method of directing the car down the road, which is a bit of a shame for a modern 911, but again short of a gc3 992’s.

Don’t steer that beautifully. They steer just fine. They stop very well, though, as all 911s do and, as we say, the mid-range poke by smaller poke the mid-range wallet. Is it’s a bit of an eye-opener? Actually, the gearbox works rather well, too.

Eight-Speed pdk super fast shifts up or down, and you can specify this one the s, but it tends to be manually if you want. If that is your thing, you have the choice: the regular one with 385 horsepower, you’re, stuck with the pdk like it or not.

It’s, not cheap for the targa 4s. we mean 110 grand all right. A couple of hundred quid shy of 110 grand that’s, a lot of money, but it’s, a very, very desirable car, a very, very quick one too. There’s a little bit of extra weight in the target because of the roof gubbins compared to the coop.

But we don’t know if you cannotice it on the move. we really don’t think you can right before we go quiz time. The targa was named after the tiger florio road race in sicily that’s, the second oldest road race in the world.

19 seconds says porsche. It’s quite a spectacular event to witness actually and then the back bit. Just oh yeah that’s, quite cool that is quite cool. Actually bosh 911 tiger becomes 911 coupe right. Then hood up 50 miles an hour, not a hint of wind, rust from anywhere that’s impressive, we mean, to all intents and purposes, this thing now feels just like the coop odds.

Do you know what we think you can hear all the engine noise as well? Listen, we mean that’s sounding quite a lot more like a proper 911. Now we have to admit. Oh, this is silly. we think we prefer this car with the roof up than with it down, at which point spending 110 grand on a targa does become a little bit silly and pointless, but we don’t know we mean it does look fabulous though.

Oh, we can’t get enough of that. We take it all back this thing’s, absolutely raving marvellous! The thing is, we think i’d, have the standard coupe if it didn’t, have this weird juddering, wind oddness, with the with the tiger dropped and the windows up, then you’d, just be completely In love with this thing, because it would make proper sense, but the fact that you do have this utterly peculiar aerodynamic, judder, it kind of defeats the object it’s, some of the object now.

Overall, this thing is fabulous, but we will am completely baffled as to how port has managed to get the aerodynamic bit so wrong, but other than that. This is a fabulous if rather expensive, car, another peach from porsche once you sort the wind aerodynamics out.

So that is the new 911 targa, and apart from this one, slightly curious issue with its cabin aerodynamics, a very lovely thing. It is too not just to drive but to look at and even just to be in. Oh yes, and as for the answer to that question about the world’s oldest road race or in fact just oldest race.
